Idaho Custom Cabin Builders

True Log Homes was founded in 1975 by Jim Maushak in Deming, Washington.

The company is in its second generation. Jim’s son, Jesse Maushak has been operating True Log over decade. Located about an hour and a half from McCall, Idaho in the small town of Grangeville, True Log Homes is right in the heart of a steady supply of Idaho timber.

True Log Homes directly sources logs from Idaho loggers. This cuts out the “third party” that most companies rely on. Keeping this selection process in-house also shows  dedication to quality control and to maintaining relationships with local, small business loggers.

Jesse, along with his wife Michelle and children, enjoy the mountain lifestyle. Fishing, riding ATV’s, and building cabins make up some of their best days. Visitors are welcome to schedule a visit of the log yard. Often the wow factor really sets in when people walk through a home being built and touch the massive logs. Located off of HWY 95, commuters can see handcrafted projects being built and then months later being taken down. Jesse in the ‘yard and Michelle in her home office are the definition of owner operators, their focus is evident in each project. Give them a call, they love to talk about logs and building!

Idaho Cabin Builders

We offer the Handcrafted Swedish cope method and chinked style methods of building with round logs. We can also provide the log-work for your Post and Beam project. We also build in the dovetail style with 8 X 12 or 6 X 10 square beams. Exterior corner lengths can also be varied to add more rustic uniqueness. We build with Western Red Cedar, Lodgepole Pine, Douglas Fir, and Spruce. Commonly our log cabin/log home material diameters are 14+ inches, but can build with larger upon request. At True Log Homes here in Idaho, we are able to source our logs from dead standing trees and well managed, sustainable forests. Our efficient process of hand-choosing each log keeps waste to a minimum.

Each handcrafted style log is hand-peeled, scribed, and fitted here in our log yard, with no visible splices in your log walls. All knots, scrapes and abrasions are hand-planed and sanded flush with log surface. The window and door openings are cut to rough opening as per plans. The walls are pre-drilled for the electrical wiring. The log package includes log walls, any second floor log joists and log porch supports included in blueprints, log ridge pole, log purlins or log rafter all sized according to plans

We also offer truly beautiful milled/lathed style log homes and cabins, which can be a budget-friendly solution without sacrificing exceptional quality. Our Swedish coped round logs stacked up perfectly symmetrical produces a satisfyingly uniform log wall that is sure to impress. The log are manufactured at our mill facility on-site and we manufacture 8″, 10″ and 12″ round logs with a perfect “half moon” shaped cope to fit on the log below. This milled/lathed log cabin package comes with the choice of  log screws or a through-bolt system for log connection. We provide “log wall maps” for exact placement of each pre-cut log and sill seal for cope insulation. The logs are shipped in 4′ tall x 4′ wide x 16′ and under wrapped bundles. Don’t forget to check out our log cabin plans for inspiration!
